Un transit s'opère lorsqu'une planète passe entre nous et le soleil. Dès lors, vous aurez l'occasion de voir un point noir se balader au milieu du Soleil. Mais pour ça vous devez vous munir de lunette spéciale ou d'un solarscope sinon vous finirez à la clinique pour un problème oculaire sérieux.

Pour ma part, j'irai à la Barillette ou au Salève, je dois avoir une dizaine de lunettes à disposition et 3 sièges libres dans ma voiture. Départ le mercredi 6 juin à 05h15.

VeryLongScreenCable : a new freenx name

Hi everyone,
As a true lover of the freenx work, I'm pleased to propose the following name:

Very Long Screen Cable

Let me Explain it: As a sysadmin of the Geneva Observatory, I have the duty to find words which explain in a comprehensive way what a software is for.

So I just tell them:

• Hey men, this software allows you to connect to your main station from everywhere.
• Like for instance:
• Imagine that you are at work.
• And you use FreeNX from your machine to your machine (you don't see the point.. then wait)
  
• FreeNX is just like the cable of your screen, nothing more !
  
• When you log out from FreeNX, it is like pulling away your screen cable.
• Your applications still run on your machine, But you can not see them.

And now, listen to the beautifull:

• Imagine that you have to leave your work to go home
  
• But you have to finish your job too.
  
• So now you would like to pull a VeryLongScreenCable from your work to your home to continue your work
  
• Then...
• Just use FreeNX at home, and you will get your screen back as you left it at your job
• The application will be there as if you will be at your work !
• Now... I'm sure that you do see the point... do you ? :)
  
• And unbelievably, it is damn fast and really clear.

So after some thinking, I thought that the name should contain information for non expert. I mean do you think that many people knows what does mean X.

1) This one I feel it more than self explanotory, It is just a representation of a VeryLongScreenCable, so long that it turns around the earth.









2) This One, is just a play around the vlsc letters.

- I thought the the thing the more important was the screen, so that way we have a BIG 's'

- the 'c' will look like a 110/220 Volt plug at the end of the long cable materialized by the 's'

- the 'vl' are small, and give a stylish 's'



This was my big 2 cents to the new freenx project.

• To make it work, you only need the firmware of the ipw2100 which you will have to put in the directory /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware.

• You can find the firmware here:

• to install it:

su - root
cd /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/
tar -xzvf ipw2100-fw-1.3.tgz

• and then eth1 will appear

• on etch, the i855resolution package get renamed into 915resolution.
• so to make working your screen in mode 1400x1050

su -
aptitude install 915resolution
edit /etc/default/915resolution with
MODE=5a
XRESO=1400
YRESO=1050

• don't forget to add the mode 1400x1050 in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
